Born Lincolnshire, 20th July, 1951 to southern Irish parents. My mother was from Clara, County Offaly and my father was from Skibbereen, West Cork. They met and married in England. Poet, artist, editor, publisher, I have performed and published my work nationally and internationally since the late 1970's. Worked for BBC-TV in London, continuously from 1973 to 1988, latterly on arts documentary films, notably as production assistant/researcher on the Arena series.

Shortly after moving to London in 1970, I met the painter, Antony Cook, my life partner. Antony died in April, 2005.

In 1988, we moved to the Pennines outside Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire where, for the last 18 years, I have lived and developed my work as a poet, artist, editor, lecturer and tutor, working on a freelance basis. For over a decade I ran my celebrated Writing in Action Adult Education/Workers Educational Association weekly classes in Hebden Bridge as well as correspondence tutoring in creative writing for the Open College of the Arts. I have held many Residencies. I continue to present workshops in a wide range of educational and community settings.

My work has appeared extensively in national and international journals and anthologies. For over 30 years, I have performed my work, collaborated with dancers and musicians and participated in major international poetry festivals and conferences in the USA, Canada, Europe, Eire, Britain as well as participating in performance tours of the USA, Canada and the Czech Republic.
